Natural Wonders Posters

Embarking on this project, my objective was to craft a captivating poster that showcased natural wonders in the world. I was fortunate enough to choose the Grand Canyon as the centerpiece of my creation, and the challenge extended beyond just having to use Indesign. The challenges included dealing with kerning and leading difficulties, preventing widows and orphans, pixelated images, and maintaining uniform body copy sizing. Despite the initial complexity, I successfully navigated these challenges to achieve the desired visual appeal for my poster.

My Process:
As I first started, developing the layout was the main priority to me. I drew twenty different layouts, experimenting with a wide range of ideas for my poster. I originally lend towards a more vertical layout on a black backdrop, but was faced with character length limitations. After the work in progress, I switched to a white background and horizontal layout, which allowed me to successfully keep my body copy to a manageable 75 characters. This choice greatly improved the Grand Canyon poster's overall visual impact while also easing the process.

What I Learned:
The creative journey did not conclude with the Grand Canyon alone. Inspired by the success of my initial design, I ventured into creating two additional posters featuring The Great Barrier Reef and The Northern Lights. Maintaining a cohesive series aesthetic, I replicated the layout across all three posters, ensuring a harmonious visual narrative. What I learned while creating my posters was that it is not easy at all. There are a bunch of rules you must follow and if not then your poster will lack easy readability. I learned to keep trying even when I do not get it right the first time because it is always a learning experience. Having to redesign my whole poster was a huge turn around, but it helped me get better at my time management skills.
