STUDENT HOUSING
The university of Óbuda currently has 4 campuses spread throughout Budapest. Among Hungarian and international people, the university has over 15 000 students. However, its student housing shelters only 1500 of those. Given that the lodging is located on the Buda side of the city and 3 of the campuses are on Pest, this project offers a closer location for most students. It is not only an affordable housing alternative, as it is also a place for students to exercise, study and relax.
The site is located on Thököly út 37, 7 minutes away from Keleti and 10 minutes away from Blaha Lujza. Currently, the 3706 m² site is not being used. It is extremely accessible by public transportation while also having a good amount of services available nearby. The aim of the project is to provide a haven for the students as well a quality public space for the city’s population.
The complex holds a café, library, plotter and open court for the students as well as for the common public. For exclusive use of colleagues is the housing itself, a gym, study room, entertainment room and terraces. The functions are disposed throughout the whole site and on four stories. The master plan is designed to be integrated with its surroundings as well as having more intimate areas. The placement of the trees along the site offers a wholesome feeling to its users.
The layout aims to integrate students, while maintaining their private spaces. The annex building shelters the group activities spaces, being connect through the glass walkways on the first and second floors. The kitchen on each floor has a balcony or a terrace (fourth floor) with tables and sun loungers as well as a small garden for the students to cultivate spices and small vegetables.
