The View Between Villages

During my Publication and Design class I was tasked with a documentation project that would span the course of three months. We had to document a topic over the semester and then write at least 10,000 words to go with it. I chose to do a 8.5x11" sized book. It was a project that utilized typography, photography, and layout. For my project I chose to document Third Culture Kids. A Third Culture Kid (TCK) is a person who has spent a significant part of their developmental years outside the parents’ culture. The TCK frequently builds relationships to all of the cultures, while not having full ownership in any. Although elements from each culture may be assimilated into the TCK’s life experience, the sense of belonging is [often] in relationship to others of similar backgrounds. With this project I conducted interviews with different TCKs and then created a collage that depicted their personal story along with childhood photos, and took film photos with those I could meet in person. All images, text, and design were created by me.
