Letters/Glyphs Compositions

These typographic compositions were created for a school assignment. The requirements included using letters/glyphs to create designs were all parts work well together and the final design feels complete. Two typefaces were used, one with serifs and one without serifs (sans-serif).
Serif composition using Stemple Garamond typeface.
This compostion used Stemple Garamond typeface. The letters/glyphs overlap in such a way they flow into each glyph. An element I particularly like is the contrast of the curvy letters moving into the straight glyphs. The way the design moves from the top left to the bottom right leads a viewer along a path. This provides a feeling of order even though there is big variety of shapes within the letters/glyphs.
Sans-serif composition using Neue Haas Grotesk typeface.
This composition used Neue Haas Grotesk typeface. The use of negative space creates a strong focal point. The letters/glyphs stacked along the right begins with a character that has visual weight. However, the overlapping letters in the center are aligned to create a random pattern of shapes that brings interest.
