插画故事揭示了特定的社会现象。 我根据自己对人的日常观察以及荣格心理学,以视觉叙事的形式来创作这个故事。 这是关于人们为了某种目的而戴上面具来遮盖自己,最后迷失自我的故事。当今社会,为了某些利益或目的,人们往往戴着不同的美丽面具来对待别人,而不是做自己。 他们最终可能会因为自己的伪装和虚伪而迷失自我。 而我们也属于这些人。 然而,年少时的我们是纯真的。 我们过去也以同样的方式对待别人。 随着年龄的增长,我们不再纯真。 我们学会了如何假装自己并隐藏自己的真实感受。 随着时间的流逝,连我们自己也分不清哪一部分是真实的。 我们感到绝望和无助,忘记了以前的样子。

INTRODUCTION
The particular social phenomenon is unmasked by a story of illustrations. I made the story according to my daily observations on people as well as jungian psychology in the form of visual narrative. It is about people cover themselves by wearing masks for certain purposes, and at last they lose themselves. For certain profits or purposes, people in today’s society tend to wear different beautiful masks to treat others instead of being what they were. They may finally lose themselves for their pretending and hypocrisy. And we also belong to these people. However, we were innocent when we were young. We used to treat others in the same way. As we grow older, we are not innocent any more. We learned how to pretend ourselves and hide our true feelings. As time passes by, even ourselves can’t tell which part is true. We feel despaired and helpless, forgetting the way we were like before.​​​​​​​

根据荣格和他的精神分析,我们越深入地认识到自己所扮演的社会角色,我们可能拥有的阴影就越多。我们可能会试图隐藏自己的本能,这不利于个人发展。从精神分析的角度来看,如果我们认识到自己因彼此之间的冲突而拥有的人格面具,我们可能会出现很多心理问题。这样的社会现象和我想表达的主要思想都是抽象的。因此,我想用叙事插图的形式来表达这个想法。这样,抽象的现象就可以用具体的故事形象化、具体化地呈现。我从蒙克绘画的色彩运用和人物塑造中得到了视觉表达的灵感。 另外米罗作品中柔和的线条和毕加索早期作品中的人物也给了我启发。

RESEARCH & REFERENCE
According to Jungian and his psychoanalysis, the more deeply we recognize the social role we play, the more shadows we may have. We may try to hide our instincts, which is bad for personal development. From the perspective of psychoanalysis, we may have many psychological problems if we recognize the persona we possess for the conflicts between each other. Such kind of social phenomenon and the main idea I want to express are abstract. Therefore, I’d like to express the idea in the form of narrative illustrations. In this way, the abstract phenomenon can be presented visually and specifically with concrete stories. I got my inspiration of visual expression from Munch’s paintings for his employment of colors and shaping of figures. Also the soft lines in Mirro’s works and figures in Picasso’s early works also enlightened me.

故事中的所有角色都只露出半张脸,代表着隐藏在他们背后的自我。

STORY BOARD
In the story, personas of different people are not presented directly, but in the form of different objects and roles to express my ideas. Toad——nature. / The wise——the model that people fantasy in their mind. / The wired tree——our society. / Villagers with braids—— Oneself who get rid of his nature. / Colourful fruit——profit, opportunity, money, status and desire, etc. / Shell on the back——The mask people wear to appeal to others. / The ultimate colorful fruit——an increasing goal fantasied in people’s mind.
All roles in the story only show half face, representing a hidden self behind them.
