NUWA
No War: NUWA (No War) is a footwear design that symbolizes anti-war sentiments. Inspired by reflections on the long-lasting disasters caused by wars worldwide, we aim to convey our anti-war stance through this thought-provoking design. The harsh aesthetics serve as a reminder for people to cherish peace and care for the Earth's environment.
Design: The symbol of a death skull is intricately designed on the heel of the shoe, making it the prime location for everyone to notice this crucial design feature. It serves as a constant reminder of the warning against war. The outsole features a lattice deconstruction, providing both comfort and minimizing the overall weight of the shoe.
Design: From the outset, we decided to incorporate the skull element to express our design concept. The skull, with its strong warning connotations, adds a visually compelling aspect to the design. However, the complexity of the skull's shape led us to reconsider the production methods available. After numerous attempts, we opted for 4D printing to bring our final design to life. Given its intricate design, we utilized various tools, ranging from sculpting tools and industrial design modeling tools to parametric algorithm programs. The synthesis of these tools resulted in the creation of this highly distinctive design.
Development: Unlike traditional sneaker designs, this anti-war-themed shoe has garnered strong interest and contributions from individuals and experts across different fields. Doctors, chemical scientists, designers, sculptors, photographers, architects, teachers, students, entrepreneurs, athletes, and media professionals, all with an anti-war and eco-conscious mindset, participated in the design and development process. This interdisciplinary collaboration efficiently addressed various practical issues from the data requirements between 4D printing materials and ergonomics to the fusion of sculptural form and deconstruction lattice.
We will be unveiling this product soon on Kickstarter—stay tuned!
