I'm Miranda Berger, and I am a Graphic Design student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I am creating a collection of all of my best work to showcase all the mediums I have worked with. Featured above is a title made with a font I created titled "Huckleberry Beach"
"Huckleberry Beach" is inspired by Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. This city is well known for the central lake by the same name, as well as the resort, which is the home to the notorious "floating green", which golfers from all over the world swarm to tee off onto. As a part of the Pacific Northwest, the city is very scenic and is home to a myriad of wild life that resides in its forests.
These two sticker designs were an extension of the Huckleberry Beach project

I am also involved with the Club Volleyball team at the university, and so I am in charge of any of our graphics, merch design, and media content
Brand Identity
Midwest Nice is a small local texture art business based in Milwaukee, WI. I was commissioned to create the brand's logo and business cards, as well as also doing some product photography. Pictured above is a photo promoting the art kits for sale by the business owner and two more images showcasing the art. The owner is inspired by the mid-century modern style, so she wanted the logo to be reminiscent of a classic flower graphic of that style, without it being too literal. I chose the font, Montserrat, because it is similar to the font of a Midwestern Motel sign.
Ardea is a luxury concierge startup. It is just in the beginning stages of building the company, so this logo is just the start of their brand identity. The two business partners had very different ideas for the logo: one was adamant about not having serif fonts, while the other felt that the serifs were more luxurious. The things they did both agree on was that it had to resemble a heron in some way, as that is what Ardea means. They also both liked the idea of a circle being included in the design. The way I solved these solutions was that I found a font that was a happy medium between serif and san serif (Arpona). Then I used the shape of a heron flying as a building block for the logo; I kept the lines thin and soft to be similar to feathers.
Chip Kidd
For my Design Toolbox class, we were all assigned a well known graphic designer to create a logo for. I was given Chip Kidd. Kidd is a book cover artist and he himself claims that he doesn't stick to a specific style, so when I was creating this logo, I had to figure out how to encapsulate him. The way I solved this, was that I noticed that he does a lot of comic art and illustration, and he uses a lot of high contrast in his work. I wanted to make my logo resemble a superhero emblem and then used the dashed stroke to resemble comic lines. The colors I used were important to the design. Red and black were some of his more prominent colors in his work.

Then the next part of our project was to use our logo and incorporate it into a postage stamp. For all of my projects I wanted to represent a different aspect of Kidd, so for the postage stamp, I used his most famous work, Jurrasic Park, as inspiration.

The final part of this project was to combine all of our work into a post card. I wanted to keep the simple design style I used throughout the whole collection. I also used the comic lines again on the front of the card. The illustration is of his most recognized portrait, and his iconic glasses.
Type Specimen
In my typography class, we picked a font and created our own type specimen booklet. I chose Arpona (which was the font I used for the Ardea logo). Arpona was inspired by the Trajan column in Rome, so I used that as inspiration for my booklet. The cover design was inspired by a clay tablet, and the back cover uses Latin words and roman numerals. I also used Roman numerals as page numbers .
In my intro design class last year, all of the students were given a word for the whole semester that we had to use as inspiration for all the designs we made. My word was "start", so I made this page of vectors in Adobe Illustrator that all related to the word.
Social Media
Before I transferred to the University of Illinois, I played volleyball at Parkland College, and so as a design student, I made Instagram posts and Instagram story templates for the team
Painting
I am passionate about painting in addition to just design. I specialize in digital painting, but I also love using watercolor and acrylic.
