What does the word "nothing" mean to you? To me it means many things, but when this question was presented to me during an art group meeting, my first thoughts were of emptiness, loneliness and desolation. I tried to capture these thoughts in the pencil drawing below. I created a post-apocalyptic world, where all life has been wiped out except for one lone figure and an inexplicably vibrant tree in the distance. The tree represents the idea that there is no such thing as nothing in this world. When it seems all is lost, there is still hope and the spark of life somewhere. The lone figure, however, does not see this even though the brightness of the tree overpowers the darkness around it.
