Our stamp project in Graphic Design II required us to pick an influential designer, and present our interpretation of their style. I chose legendary lo-fi poster designer Art Chantry as the subject of my stamp design. He is known for his raw approach used to create his work, and uses only mechanical and traditional techniques. As a challenge to myself, I decided to leave the computer and use it as my last possible tool to create my design. I had heard of Chantry's work before and became interested in trying a new approach.

I spent time looking over his posters and felt that an intuitive, unrestrained approach was how I would best capture his style. The result is a portrait of Chantry created using a collage of randomly cut and placed pieces taken from an image of his face. Using an X-acto blade, I cut his name out of a sheet of paper, which I tore out and added to the collage. I scanned the end result into the computer in an attempt to drop some details and remove the color. The scan ended up being better than I anticipated, which led me to adding just a few more elements (dynamic shapes, bold colors) to finalize my stamp.  The resulting design is quite different than anything I had done before.
