Blue Lias Artisanal Chocolate

Blue Lias Artisanal Chocolate
This personal project was inspired by a trip to the Natural History Museum in London in Autumn 2022. I was drawn to the fossil clad walls of the Marine Reptile exhibitions which featured some of the oldest collected fossils of prehistoric animals on display. I noticed how each frame containing an extinct animal interconnect with one another forming an enormous mosaic.

Blue Lias is a local chocolate brand inspired by the Jurassic Coast and its rich history of fossil collection. Like a fossil carefully handled from the coast to collections, each bar is prepared using carefully sourced ingredients to create a delightful treat perfect to bring on the sea shore.
Visuals
The brand takes its name after the geological formation along Southern Britain which contains countless fossils of ancient animals. The logo takes inspiration from the waves of the Dorset coast and the numerous fossil ammonites which can be easily found on the shore. Montecatini Pro was chosen for the primary type for its subtle serifs and playful characters. Roboto Condensed was chosen for its readability and contrasting form.
The main colour scheme of blue was chosen reflecting the coastal identity of the brand.
