Concept Covers for Tenant of Wildfowl Hall

"The Tenant of Wildfowl Hall" Concept Covers
For this project I created 3 possible cover for my favorite classic book. The "Tenant of Wildfell Hall" is dark, sad, and tinged with hope. It's a romantic book, but shouts directly to out need to love God before we love ourselves and others. It touches on whether or not morality is required of someone who has been wronged, and I love that the message of the book is that if you want truly want to be good, you will always choose the right.

As I designed these covers I played with the feelings of being trapped, of being wounded, and of the beauty we can find along our path even when it's very difficult. I hope you will enjoy my work as much as I enjoyed making it.
This is the typography piece. I wanted to elude to the feelings of being trapped with something that felt like bars; like being trapped. Inspired from this quote from the book "I have nothing left me but the solace of a good conscience and a hopeful trust in Heaven, and you labor continually to rob me of these. If you persist, I must regard you as my deadliest foe.'
This was my physical piece. I created it with collage. I specifically wanted town paper in the image because of the pages Helen, the main character, rips from her diary. The pink rose a nod towards a quote from the end of the book where she talks about being a winter rose as opposed to a spring rose. The languages allude to the travels in the book.
This is the final piece. It was my choice. Because flowers are so often referred to in the book I wanted to try my hand at arranging flowers. I used peonies and roses and then photographed my work. I changed the opacity and added text.
