PM Modi and Sheikh Hasina Inaugurate Three Development Projects via Video Conferencing
On Wednesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and her Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly launched three development projects with Indian assistance. Through video conference, the project’s two leaders officially launched it.
These are the three projects:

Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line
Unit – II of the Maitree Very Nuclear energy Station

Akhaura-Agartala Cross-Border Rail Link
The Government of India has granted Bangladesh a grant assistance of INR 392.52 crore to undertake the Akhaura-Agartala Cross-Border Rail Link project. The rail link is 12.24 km long, comprising 5.46 km in Tripura and 6.78 km of Dual Gauge rail in Bangladesh.
Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line
With a total project cost of USD 388.92 million, the Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line Project is being carried out under the Government of India’s concessional Line of Credit. The project calls for building a broad gauge rail line spanning around 65 km from Mongla Port to Khulna’s current rail system. This allows Mongla, Bangladesh’s second-biggest port, to be connected to the broad-gauge railway system.
Maitree Super Thermal Power Project
The 1320 MW (2×660) Super Thermal Power Plant (MSTPP) Maitree Super Thermal Power Project is situated in Rampal, Khulna Division, Bangladesh, and is funded by a USD 1.6 billion loan from the Indian Concessional Financing Scheme.
The Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Private) Limited (BIFPCL) is in charge of carrying out the project. It is a joint venture firm owned equally by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and India’s NTPC Ltd.
The two prime ministers jointly presented Unit I of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant in September 2022, while Unit 2 will be officially opened on November 1, 2023. The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant’s opening will improve Bangladesh’s energy security.
