A sketch I put together for Mahashivratri, one of India's most important festivals, which literally translates to "The Great Night of Shiva." It is held in the lunar month of Magha, which corresponds to February/March in the gregorian calendar. It is held in honor of Shiva, who is the destroyer, in the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, in the Hindu pantheon. Shiva is perhaps the most important god of these, and is often called Mahadeva, the Great God. Hence Mahashivratri is celebrated with great joy and pomp across India. At the Isha Yoga Center for example, over 600,000 individuals gather every year to take part in the night-long celebrations.
