These designs began by selecting separate topics based on current political, social, economic or environmental concerns. I chose the Israel-Palestine conflict and famine. For each, I wanted to focus on, capture, and highlight the humanitarian aspects within. In terms of this process CMYK colors were used in this Muti-color design. If you would like to see more of the original photos used in these collages check out my Dropmark.
In today’s climate, the Israel-Palestine conflict is dominating the news cycle. Nearly all comments are about which side of the fighting will be remembered as “correct” in the history books. My purpose is not to choose sides or provoke you to, however, I would like to open the conversation around the innocent people caught in the crossfire. As such, my design prominently features children who were born into the conflict that started generations before them. Through no choices of their own, they often suffer the consequences the most, whether it be injury, becoming prisoners of war, loss of their guardians, or even death.

While famine is not usually thought to be as deadly as war by traditional measures, it impacts the lives of the innocent all the same. I have been fortunate enough to not have to worry about where my next meal will come from, or worse yet, believe there is none coming. However, I empathize with the people around the world whose reality is that nutrition and food are not constants, especially growing children. Children who will sadly develop malnourished or  not live to develop due to starvation. In a world characterized by excess, I would like to highlight those in need, the hungry, and the unseen. As such, my design features people of all ages malnourished and their hopefulness for, but unfortunate lack of, the basic human necessity - food.
