tanaka branding

for a class project we were to come up with an identity system for animaginary restaurant based on the style of a famous designer. we werefree to choose the type of restaurant as long as we were able tocomplete a set series of deliverables. i decided on a japaneserestaurant, taking the name from one of the characters in the film you only live twice. stylistically i chose to emulate saul bass.
first pass at the logo for tanaka, took inspiration from saul bass's "the man with the golden arm" poster
second pass on the tanaka logo, kept the sushi elements from the previous version and re-worked the text.
final draft of the tanaka logo.  i did away with the sushi pieces entirely, kept the red bubble and incorporated it in with the text.

poster for the grand opening of tanaka.  i drew inspiration from traditional japanese woodblock printing and skewed it through a saul bass lens.
