IN WATERMELON SUGAR
book illustrations and box design
I'm glad to show you the illustrated book for Richard Brautigan "In watermelon sugar". This is my graduated project. I choose this book because of its crazy absurdist atmosphere, it really inspires me now. Working on this text I can create not just detailed illustrations, but use my imagination and all my strange ideas here. First idea was to create the watercolor illustrations to make the atmosphere sweet as the watermelon... But working on my sketches I find more interesting technic. First I make pencil drawings and a lot of different factures. Then I scan it all and began to choose the right facture for each illustration. As the final step I have added letters. I think this mix of drawings, factures and letters create some chaos I realy need to show in this book. Also I think it would be great to add the disc with Watermelon Music here. And of course we need a really cool box for all this stuff.

Making the design of box for disc i also create a few funny stamps for its cover. Something like "appreciated by the dead chickens guild" and so on)
Working on the illustrations I've also write an article about the process of my work. It was published in Beamused magazine. There is a discription of my work step by step and a few words about working with factures and monotypes. I decide to show some of this materials here. To make factures I use oil, watercolour, ink, gouache and any other materials I've got. It's always interesting to make new experiments!
