Embroidered lettering

hello is a typographic experiment of lowercase letterforms on a grid of 5x2 inches. The self-initiated project was created to explore the relationship between text and visual art. A rich palette of lush cotton embroidery thread was used to create the less traditional type design. The design is hand embroidered using a needle and thread to reveal the greeting from a silhouetted splash of colour. The split-stitch technique is used to create the solid shape with added texture. The idea was to create a visually interesting graphic letterform using a mix of eye-catching colours.

This embroidered lettering was crafted by hand using cotton thread on cotton fabric. The overall shape of the colour splash was done by freehand.
