PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We were commissioned to take the interior design in collaboration with the architect studio of Jörg Kaiser on an existing yet enlarged nursery and kindergarten at Oberlauchringen, Germany. The project had two basic different parts as to refresh and rethink of the existing building with 21st century needs, and create a brand new additional part for the building, containing all new functions – like two nursery rooms, office and dining for the teachers – and having new accesses, open spaces for the children. The two parts needed a different approach, at the same time a solid and uniform method which could help and follow the whole building from the entry till the nursery rooms.
The difference between old and new remained visible but the colours, materials and the built-in furniture we used behave the same way across the spaces. The architects created a bright enlargement with a loads of light all around and the possibility having more direct connection between inside and outside which is very important for children at this young age. Our aim was to enter the light to every single corner by using as much transparency as possible.
