POISONED
S.A. SAFEA (Société Anonyme de Fabrication d'Engrais Azoté) was a huge site full of beautiful decayed architectural buildings that has been abandoned in the late seventies. The ammonia factory once located in the France part of Belgium produced a large chain of hills full waste products. Due to the demolition in march 2006 these hills are nowadays overgrown with „healthy” weeds and trees. The walls surrounding the place where isolating the poluted site for a long time. There was almost no vandalism or graffiti to be found, untouched and authentic exactly as I like it. Doors are not locked and everything is still on it's original place, just like it was the last day of work. All entrance doors are having warning signs about "danger, forbidden to smoke, toxic chemicals and only accessible by qualifying personnel. The site contains all sorts of corroded colours and decayed structures. Tools are hanging on boards and the stockhouse contains lots of never used material. These spare parts and components are placed in large wooden storage tanks loaded with oil, to protect it against corrosion. The storage of basic raw material based on the ground floor buildings are having a nasty smell of chemicals and petrol. Even though windows are broken for some fresh air and just spending a few hours inside a terrible headage ended the day. Luckily I don't explore sites like this ammonia factory very often!
With the first exploration on the terrain suddenly I stood in frontal sight of a fox, a fantastic moment because we both didn't notice each other on forehand. Also two owl's where hanging around the upper parts of the main building. Some say exploring abandoned sites alone is dangerous, yes it could be, but on my own the focus is much sharper.
