SOCIAL HOUSING - IZMIR

Located at the intersection of urban texture, rural texture and sea texture, the project was shaped on two main topics; Context and user profile overlooked in today's social housing projects.

Different house typologies were created by using inner courtyards, terraces and inner gardens in the traditional architectural texture of İzmir. House types were also brought together in a gridal order by forming units among themselves. The resulting layout provided both a reference to the grid layout of the two ancient cities of this geography, Priene and Miletus, as well as providing a sustainable answer to possible future housing needs thanks to its modular structure that can be added and removed. The wooden shutters in the traditional architecture were reinterpreted as sunshades and designed in a movable manner and used as a passive cooling tool to suit every facade. The structural system and spatial organization of the building were shaped and designed accordingly, taking into account the psychology of the victims. Steel frame system, which is a light structure system, was used to make people feel safe in large and spacious spaces. In addition, a cubic meter-oriented design was aimed by using terrace gardens and open spaces, which are allowed by the climatic conditions of Izmir, as well as inner courtyards and gallery spaces in traditional architecture.

As a result, the project can be evaluated as a modern interpretation of the traditional, focusing on human psychology, using the historical references of this geography.
