Accessibility for the Disabled

We noticed that there is a lack of accessibility to the disabled in our country to the extent that we barely see them in the streets independently. We then decided to interview people in the streets of Korba about their awareness of one of the major tools that makes accessibility easier to the disabled, and that is curb cuts. Interviews showed how unaware the people are about the use of curb cuts that they park unknowingly in front of them. It also showed that even though some people respected the rights of the disabled to move normally in the streets, a majority of the people refused to move their parked cars in front of the curb cuts, even after being told. Not only so, but we also interviewed a “sayes” who refused to leave the place in front of the curb cuts empty and preferred to let cars park as they wish, explaining that we barely see disabled people in the streets and that it would be “stupid” if we thought that only four people can change the world. Instead of respecting the rights of the already disabled people, we decided to prison them in their homes, putting our benefits before their rights. As designers, we decided to approach this inhuman topic in a deeper way and propose possible solutions to this problem, in order to transform Korba into a better and more accessible place.
