Bacardi: Spirit Of The Sea

Our brief was to create series of surfboard designs based on rum and its relationship with the ocean. Whether because of its popularity among seafaring 16th-century sailors or its reputation as Captain Billy Bones’ drink of choice in Robert Louis Stevenson’s literary classic, Treasure Island, this adventurer’s spirit has been closely associated with the seven seas throughout history. We picked 3 illustrators to collaborate with on this project. I wrote the copy for one of the surfboards and all the print material. Below is the flat design of the map I created with illustrator Rouleaux van der Merwe as well as the other campaign material.
We also created an entry mechanic promoting the campaign. The surfboards were distributed around the country to local bars situated close to popular surfing spots. The entry mechanic: draw a card at random from a stack and present it to the bartender for a reward.
