한국 모더니즘 시인인 이상은 시 <운동>을 통해 1930년대 당시 규격화 그리고 획일화 되는 건물과 매일 반복되는 일상을 비판하였다.이 시는 띄어쓰기와 행과 연이 없는 것이 특징인데, 시가 늘어져있는 모습은 흡사 화자가 올라가 있는 백화점의 모습처럼 격자를 이루고 있다. 근대화가 낳은 격자에 갇힌 답답한 화자의 삶을 그래픽을 통해 해결하고자, 모샤 사프디가 디자인한 공동주택인 'Habitat67'의 형태 요소를 차용하기로 했다.공동주택이지만 각 가구가 다른 방향을 바라보고 있어 그곳에 살고있는 거주민들은 일반 아파트와는 다르게 각 가구마다 다른 풍경을 바라보며 살 수 있다. 건물의 형태적 특성을 <운동>에 적용한 방법은 모두 정면을 바라보고 있는 초성, 중성, 종성을 각자 다른 방향을 바라보게 하는 것이었다. 시에서는 '동쪽으로솟아오른태양이서쪽에떨어지고'라는 문장이 네 번이나 반복되는데 이 때 '해의 위치에 따른 그림자의 모양의 변화'를 표현하는 것에 초점을 맞추어 작업을 진행했다.

Korean modernist poet Yi Sang wrote <Movement> to criticize the uniformity, standardized buildings and repetition of everyday life of 1930s. The unique thing about this poem is that it doesn't have any spaces between the words, depicting the narrator's position on top of a department store with grid-like form. To find a solution to this heavy life the narrator is living in graphic forms, I decided to borrow the forms of "Habitat67" designed by Moshe Safdie. Although being an apartment, each of the living quarters face various directions, giving each of them a different view through the windows. The way I utilized this mechanism from the poem <Movement> was to make initial phonemes, medium phonemes, and the final phonemes face different directions. In the poem, a sentence that goes "The sun rises from East falls to the West" is repeated four times. Implementing this idea, the main objective of this project was to show the changes in the shadows casted by the moving sun.
