Fika: Swedish term that refers to the act of taking a break to enjoy coffee or tea, often accompanied by a variety of sweet or savory snacks, pastries, or sandwiches. It is a social tradition deeply ingrained in Swedish culture, where friends, family, or colleagues gather together to share a relaxed and casual moment of conversation and camaraderie. Fika is not just about the beverage and food but also emphasizes the importance of taking time out of one's busy schedule to connect with others and foster relationships in a laid-back setting.
FIKA is a coffee bar situated in the Drama region of Greece. It has earned a reputation as one of the city's most esteemed coffee bars and has become a favored destination for both locals and visitors. Recently, there was a change in ownership, leading to a decision to enhance certain visual aspects of the establishment.
When the new owners approached me, they presented the old menus and expressed their desire for a more modern and minimalist design that would also embody the Swedish philosophy of the café. To achieve this, I began streamlining the layout of the old catalog by removing extraneous visual information. However, I also had to strike a delicate balance, ensuring that essential information remained intact.
In order to maintain this equilibrium, I decided to incorporate the dot from the café's logo as an additional visual element in the catalog. It is important to note that the current logo might differ from the one in the catalog, as the café intends to update it in the future.
As for the cover, I utilized an existing poster personally chosen by the owner, which required some editing to suit the catalog's specific requirements. It's worth mentioning that this particular poster was a part of the project's brief and had to be included.
Please be aware that the images used in the catalog are mock-ups, as the final printing has not yet occurred due to issues with the printing press utilized by the business.
