iMakr Photogrammetry Rig

During the winter phase of 2013 it was decided that iMakr would build their own 3D scanning rig.
I was involved in the construction, operation and post proudction phases of this project.
The scanning rig we constructed consisted of 64x Canon DSLR’s mounted on a custom aluminium extrusion frame. The modular design meant we could assemble and dissemble the rig within a short space of time in addition it also allowed us to make further modifications with ease.
All the cameras in this set up are linked to a single trigger, this trigger allows an operator to activate all the cameras instantly capturing 64 images in one second.
These Images are then processed using a software package called Agisoft which compiles still images into a point cloud and from this point cloud a 3D mesh is created.
iMakr was invited to feature at 100% design (2013) to showcase the capabilities of 3D printing,
we wanted to surprise the attendees with the opportunity to purchase a Mini-You model of themselves using our scanning booth.
