Villa Torlonia- Casino Nobile Drawing Set

I was fortunate to study abroad for my 2013 fall semester in Rome, Italy. While I was there I had taken Architectural History III. I chose Villa Torlonia for my case study as part of the course. I was so inspired by the building's elegance and balance in plan that I decided to use it as the subject for this drawing set, done in graphite.

The bottom right image is the ground level floor plan. The one above that is a detail of the floor located in the central ballroom space. Above that is a section cutting through the center of the plan facing project north. Lastly, above that is a detail of a fragment of the cornice found in the ballroom at the top of the columns. The perspective on the right side is the ballroom. I chose to use the ballroom as the focus of the project because it is the focal point in the plan and it is what the Torlonia family, a wealthy family in Rome during the early 1800s, focused on most for the design of their home, Casino Nobile.
