A cover design for 'The Outsiders' by S.E Hinton.
Concept
When you think of a typical ‘Greaser’ gang, one of the most iconic images that comes to mind is the combing back of greased hair. I decided to use this idea to create an eye-catching cover design that would stand out in a store. I feel that the rough and imperfect look of the imagery relates to the hardship the characters face in the story and captures the atmosphere of the book successfully. I have used a minimal colour palette to make a bold and striking design to grab the attention of new readers and draw old ones back in.
This design won second place for the Penguin Design Awards 2014 in the children's book category.
