World Fisheries Day: Illustration Series

#WorldFisheriesDay: Illustration Series

This illustration series was created in collaboration with A Little More Conservation, Dakshin Foundation, and Know Your Fish on the occasion of World Fisheries Day to start a discussion about the importance of fish and fishing communities in India.

From the economics of India's fisheries sector to sustainable fishing practices, these illustrations visually represent research about coastal communities and marine ecosystems.

Once the overview of the content was planned, I began by breaking it down into sizeable chunks to plan the visuals. Each illustration visually depicts the content that the post talks about. The illustrations talk about various topics including the ecological role fish play, symbiotic relationships with other marine species, and marine food webs. We also wanted to touch upon the different kinds of fishing practices followed in India, and bring to light how policies encourage unsustainable practices that lead to overfishing.
