SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE

In Singapore, I came across this sign “Sorry for the inconvenience.”  Illustrated on it was a man looking down.  I tried to recall if I have come across anything similar to it in the Philippines; it led to other thoughts and reflections.

I believe that the signage we encounter are indicative of how people behave or react to issues we are confronted with and how authorities relay their concerns.  Take for example an urban scenario where there is an ongoing construction that necessitates traffic rerouting.  One grapples with the nuisance it brings at first.  Lesson learned, one avoids it the next time and gets used to taking the alternative route.

Our generation has a tendency to respond in the same manner.  We get used to problems, calamities and daily struggles.  It is unfortunate that most of the time we think that there is nothing we can do.  In the process, we merely focus on ourselves, forgetting that we can be of service to others.

We should stop pretending that everything is alright.  Numerous problems confront us -- corruption, abuse, deforestation, identity crisis, congestion, etc .  The common attitude is “If it does not hurt me, then I am not affected.”   The thing is… you are affected and you should be affected.
