Feeling Better

Feeling Better is a UX project I did for the “Human-Computer Interaction” course I took at Coursera.org. Here are the results of my work. Following a user centered design approach

1 * Design Brief

A design brief expresses the problem/opportunity and it should make clear what a good solution would accomplish.

Problem: Some people are emotionally dependent on other people. Dependent people often have bad mental habits and low-self esteem and suffer from anxiety issues, due to different causes. Many dependent people suffer greatly because of their dependency.

Solution:Finding information about dependency online should be easy and accessible. A design to address this would help these people improve their mood, and ways of life and get over their dependency . Click here to see more about design brief
2 * Storyboard

After the design brief we get into the storyboard. This will helps us to create user stories. A storyboard is a comic-strip-like set of drawings about what a site's interface does and how it is used to accomplish tasks in a real usage scenario.
3 * Feedback

After showing the design brief and the storyboard to several users, we received some feedback from people:

Users feedback
- "The solution directs the designer to think only about an online portal which can incorporate things for entertaining users, discussion forums/blogs, practitioner advice."
- Good user control and freedom
- Seems flexible
- Nice clean design
- Screens are consistent
4 * Rapid Prototype

After reviewing users feedback and taking into account my main ideas from the design brief, I came up with this interface proposal.

A really fast wireframe done in Balsamiq helps as a starting point to build a solution.
5 * Feedback
User 1 → "It would be useful to make the prototype interactive. The personal instruments like mood tracking or increasing self-esteem could be mentioned on the main page - it's not convenient to do regular actions going to different places of the website. Another alternative - is a dashboard with all available instruments."

Userr 2 → "Although the idea is generous. I don't think a person who is in such a state gets to these kind of websites. If we closely survey and study the living style of such unfortunate people, instead of trying to take an advice such people starts to engage themselves and make new friends. So, this idea can make use of such a thought which closely touches the mentality."
6 * Corrections

The changes I plan to make to the prototype are:
(User feedback: "The personal instruments like mood tracking or increasing self-esteem could be mentioned on the main page - it's not convenient to do regular actions going to different places of the website. Another alternative - is a dashboard with all available instruments.)"
7 * Prototyping in Axure

My interface helps people improve their emotional wellbeing through activities that can help them express their feelings,as well as by sharing their experience with others. Users can:

- Maintain diaries
- Apply positive thinking
- Increase their self-self esteem through writing down and doing self-esteem exercises
- Track their moods
- PInteract in forums
Example of user test

8 * Testing

Four people participated in testing the prototype.
User 1
Nationalities: Colombian, Canadian
Age: 30
Profession: Graphic designer
User 2
Nationality: Russian Age: 29
Profession: Works in tourism
User 3
Nationality: American Age: 24
Profession: Educator
User 4:
Age: 27
Profession: Works in finance
9 * User Test Results Details

User test Result from Coursera students.
User 1  I like the site - colors are great (uplifting) and I can see where more than those who are in counseling could use this site, especially when going through a rough patch in their lives, not just those fighting mental illness.

User 2  Liked the interactivity in "Track Mood" and "Self Esteem" sections. There is inability to navigate anywhere from "Log Out" page. Fields in "Preferences" are not interactive. As well, in forum's reply page there is greeting "Welcome to the Diary". Nevertheless, nice design and idea! Good job!

User 3  I've found few bugs and "dead ends" but overall I see a huge amount of work.  - A good interface that solves a problem
- An interface with a defined target
- Clear and easy to use
Thanks for you attention
