The challenge
Designing a sports flip lid requires balancing practicality, safety and aesthetics. Our challenge was to create a compatible and visually appealing design for the Chilly’s Series 2 bottle, while ensuring one-handed, secure operation for vertical drinking, preventing spills or leaks, and easy maintenance.
The outcome
Designed for on-the-move, the FLIP sports bottle features an iconic silhouette and stainless steel telescopic straw for all bottle sizes. It includes a sports flip-lid, easy carry loop, and antimicrobial drinking surfaces. With double-wall vacuum technology, the bottle keeps drinks cold for 24 hours. It’s BPA-free, preserves flavour and freshness, and is compatible with the Series 2 water bottle. Same soft base, antimicrobial properties, and quality as the Series 2 Chilly’s bottle.

Modular & interchangeable
The bottle has a modular and interchangeable lid, which can be used with any Series 2 water bottle, allowing customers to enjoy the Chilly’s Flip experience without having to buy a brand new bottle. The modular telescopic straw works across all Chilly’s S2 bottle sizes, adjusting from 350ml to 1Litre.
Durable, reusable and repairable
Sustainability is at the core of our sports bottle’s design. We’ve taken a three-pronged approach to maximize its lifetime: durability, reusability, and repairability. Plus, we’ve cut down on shipping emissions by using a nylon weave for the loop, which is stronger and lighter than a moulded component. We’re also the first to use a telescopic stainless steel straw within a sports bottle - this allows the lid to work on multiple bottle sizes whilst eliminating the need for multiple injection-moulded straws.
Mechanism refinement
We believe that great design is in the details. That’s why we meticulously finessed every mechanical aspect of our product through interactive design and prototyping. From the perfect ‘click’ when opening and closing the lid, to a metal straw with a silicone boot for the ultimate silent sipping experience.
