MAP-NARRATIVE RECREATING THE SENSE OF BEING AT HOME

This is my thesis book presents the hypothesis that maps can be reconfigured to include a form of narrative that may be tasked to provide a sense of comfort ("at-homeness") in regard to navigating new or unknown routes and locations.
By redefining the concept of maps in the method of storytelling, I find that designers should not simply transfer information, but also initiate the engagement of people with their surroundings.
The first part of my research is about the environmental psychology. It includes the theory background, architectural / environmental case studies and some small experiments.  The second part is about communicating by different medias (images, acoustic space and light) information design and design personalization.  The last part is my design experiments.
