LAGOM

Government statistics show that each year in the United Kingdom we send millions of tonnes of food to landfill. With the promotion of multi-buys, bulk buys and other special offers supermarket chains are encouraging consumers to purchase more food than they need. This could be seen as retailers passing their waste on to consumers. Pre packed items also mean we are forced to purchase more food than is necessary for our needs.

Lagom; Taken from the Swedish language, the word has no direct English translation. Loosely translated it means "just the right amount".

The idea of Lagom is to encourage consumers to waste less food. Items would be displayed and sold in individual units. This would discourage over purchasing. Giving consumers the option of buying just the quantity they need, reducing both the amount of food and packaging sent to landfill.
Using the reverse side of a recept halves the amount of paper being used.
