ReLEAFer
A portable campfire stool
ReLEAFer is what it sounds like: something relieving and resembling a leaf. It's a campfire stool that perfectly blends into the woods, letting you sit with full immersion in the environment! A glance at the side of the ReLEAFer reveals a cool carved-out design.
Design
ReLEAFer was designed with Autodesk Fusion360. This allowed for easy exporting and modification of the sketches using a post-processor.
The body of the ReLEAFer is composed of 10 pieces of MDF. In total, there are 5 designs, meaning that single design is shared between two of the pieces. Each piece was individually cut from a large MDF board using a ShopBot PRSAlpha.
There are 4 bolts running through the wood, with spacers separating each board. The spacers were sketched onto the cutouts from the main body as a way to save material.
After cutting, some sanding was done in order to remove tabs and to also clean up the wood, which was later painted with black acrylic and Mod Podge. This would create a base layer and seal the MDF at the same time.
Once the Mod Podge dried, the pieces were ready to be coated with spray paint.
Closing Thoughts
Creating the ReLEAFer was the first time I had ever used the ShopBot. It was a fun experience seeing the machine in action. Anyway, this was an enjoyable project. The entire process was quite long, but it was rewarding to see how the ReLEAFer had turned out.
