Raghba- Surface techniques on a chair

Raghba, meaning desire
    Desire to rule
    Desire to own the power
    Desire to be the Power!
Mamluk Era- Renaissance of Islamic Arts

The source of inspiration lies in the Mamluk Textiles whose intricacy and authenticity ruled the Mamluk Dynasty, a dynasty that didn’t followed the usual kingship rule, but instead was ruled by slaves.

Mamluk translated as ‘one who is owned/slave’, the non-Arab slaves work and learn under the ruling power and eventually overthrows the king, to be the next Ruler.
Why a Chair?

What is it that piece of furniture that you can call your ‘own’?
A Chair!

You might ask why only furniture?
Mamluk Dynasty served as the setting stone for the furniture advancements in the Ottoman Empire (remember ottoman?)

The chair is a second hand foldable wooden chair, and adding surface techniques to it gives a new story to it- just like how the once called slaves wrote a new story as a ruler!
