Monogram Logo for Lyric Tavern

This was a major project in my DDN-101 course this past semester.

We were tasked with creating a monogram logo for a fictional company.

Our professor gave me “L” and “T” to work with.

I conceptualized the name “Lyric Tavern” — a high-end speakeasy in San Diego where “recreation meets refinement.”

Due to the association of this brand with high-society affairs, I selected the recognizable, refined look of Times New Roman (italicized).

Initially, I had issues where the “T” was more readily visible than the “L,” or the combination was not identifiable. After taking my professor’s advice, I focused heavily on the “L” adding a line to give it a timeless look. The top left half of the “T” was added afterwards not necessarily as an afterthought, but a complementing element that completed the namesake.

I created all the digital roughs in Illustrator using the pen tool and the direct selection tool to manipulate various glyphs.

Surprisingly, choosing the color scheme was my favorite part about this assignment.
