Inspired by the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and other garbage patches in the oceans of our planet, this artwork is a representation of human beings taking over the marine world. The debris in these patches is not limited to the surface of the ocean and spreads over such large areas and to such depths that it is impossible to measure. The fact that we do not know the extent of these patches is alarming, as is the lack of awareness around them; they consist mostly of microplastics, 35% of which come from the fashion industry. Through this artwork, I aim to spread awareness about these garbage patches and hopefully provide some food for thought on our contribution to them. It is also a commentary on the recent declaration of Cephalopods as sentient beings.

The collage on the edges of the artwork is symbolic of the garbage patches and is made from prints of old experiments and left-over metallic paper from a recent project. The human-octopus morph represents human beings taking over the ocean. Lastly, the blotchy ink in the background mimics the ink squirted by cephalopods as a defense mechanism when they are feeling threatened.
