Two—Spirit
POSTER DESIGN

Two-Spirit (Dos Espíritus) is a Colombian short film documentary directed by Mónica Taboada-Tapia and produced by Beto Rosero, together with Guerrero Films, a Colombian film production company with special focus on avant-garde content that explores new points of view, accompanied by social impact campaigns.

The project officially started in 2017, when Monica and her team recorded a small teaser that participated in The New York Times Op-Docs, where non-fiction documentaries made by indie filmmakers are awarded. Beto and Mónica commissioned me to create the poster in 2020, one year before its official release at IDFA.

Two-Spirit explores the intersection of transphobia with problems like sexism and poverty in Georgina’s community of about a hundred and fifty Wayuu people. Even Georgina’s ability to draw scarce potable water from a nearby spout is controlled by people prejudiced against her—which, like her other troubles, is a ripple caused by a larger force. That tragic duality was the main concept to capture in the artwork.
