M&S Packaging Brief - Artisan Beer Range

RANGE OF FOUR ARTISAN BEERS

A brief set by Marks and Spencer to create a range of beers by an artisan brewery and the packaging of which it should be displayed. The fictional brewery I created was of small scale, inspired by the Viking legends of old, most predominantly, the tale of Ragnar Lothbrok.

I was inspired by the artistic style of the Vikings and used this to create the below illustration of Ragnar, the figurehead of the brewery.

In order to create individual styles for each beer, I had to first find inspiration for names of each. After further research into the stories of Ragnar, I settled upon the idea of naming each beer after his famous sons: Bjorn Ironside, Ivar the Boneless, Sigurd Snake in the Eye and Halfdan Ragnarsson.
I then designed packaging to compliment the style of the bottles. I found that the line art was more effective against a darker background and gave it a more modern, familiar effect.
Finally, I put together a mock up design to see its effectiveness when displayed properly.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the outcome and find that the backstory and art really bring the design together.
