HATED CANDIES SEAMLESS PATTERN
BRIEF SUMMARY
I was able to create a pattern that was complex, yet intriguing to look at. The goal was the make this pattern seamless and as complex as I could have gotten it. Meaning that an intertwined element must be added to the pattern as well. The most important part of this seamless pattern was the fact that it had to be 100% original to me. Everything shown on my pattern is made and hand drawn by me.
MY CONCEPT
For my pattern idea, I decided to a subject that I knew not many people would do, which is hated candies. I did the top candies that are highly disliked in the candy industry. Black licorice, “Good & Plenty,”  butterscotch, purple and pink suckers, and lollipops that have lent and hair on them. This subject gave me a range of color choices when deciding on how I would go about designing it. My pattern is unique simply because of the idea behind it. I wanted to represent something that people hate but would still find appealing if designed right. My motto for this pattern was, “Tastes horrible, but looks tasty.”
MY PROCESS
While making my pattern, I first drew and colored my idea on paper to see how I would start it out. After deciding on which pattern I wanted to go with, I started to digitally outline my image. My hardest struggle was wondering how would I make my licorice look the way I wanted too. I ran into the challenge of how to successfully intertwine such object. I now know I was overthinking it, but at the time this was an issue I faced. While designing I managed to stay consistent with the color palette I wanted my drawing to have. This helps me not drift and add unnecessary colors to my artwork. After going back on my licorice I did manage to get it right and decided on simplifying it in order to finish in a timely manner.
WHAT IMPROVED FROM WIP I
Coming from my first work in progress, there was a lot of improvement. I say that because things that could have been fixed I did not see until a peer pointed it out and that helped me. Such as creating the licorice to be seamless and not overlap in the wrong places, that was a big part of why my pattern was not working at first.

WHAT I LEARNED
As I came closer to finishing my pattern I did learn to take in consideration how hard and time consuming making a seamless pattern is. It was so fun to make, but the time it took did help me appreciate my pattern even more. Nothing in the art field is easy, but being as to make it enjoyable is what makes the difference.
