An educational publication on Mezen Painting, a Russian folk craft. The illustrations and type combine to give context to the visual alphabet of the artform. I was shortlisted to enter this project into the 2022 ISTD competition by my University. My chosen ISTD contest brief “A Colourful Story” entailed selecting a colour and researching information around it. I found my personal focus area in this predominantly Red artform after initially selecting the colour. My design choices were inspired by the materials and colours in Mezen painting, such as the commonly used wooden surface being represented by the beige ‘Woodstock Betulla’ paper from PaperMillDirect.
