Moon Cross-Stitch on Tulle Embroidery (2021)

Moon Cross-Stitch on Tulle
This was the fourth embroidery project I stitched on tulle and was much more experimental than my previous embroidery projects on tulle. While this project could be considered embroidery, I would consider it cross-stitching due to the stitching techniques. This project was started in early May and completed in June 2021 due to the amount of time required. The only materials used were tulle, thread, and glass beads. No design was transferred onto the tulle and I simply followed along with the design on my iPad, marking off completed stitches as I went. If I were to recreate this piece, I would stitch the moon on regular fabric, cut it out, and apply it on top of the tulle instead of stitching onto the tulle directly.
Below are the images that I used while creating this project: the original design, the design on a grid, and the marking system I used while stitching.
The main problem I had with this project (ignoring the time required to stitch such a detailed project) was the fact that the spacing of the tulle weaving was not 1:1, meaning even though I followed the design exactly, the final product was oval-shaped instead of circular. To fix this, I took the project out of the embroidery hoop and placed it on top of a cork-board, and stretched the fabric as tightly as I could to make the project circular. Unfortunately, some small holes were ripped in the tulle around the moon but I fixed this by adding stars to reinforce the holes.
