Symbiodinium

// Project Bio

A series of confocal images that capture the algal protists thriving amongst my fluorescent coral samples. This bacteria is what gives corals their colour, and without this bacteria the corals will begin to bleach. The host organisms is dependent upon the photosynthetic benefits of the symbiodinium, and the bacteria are reliant upon a host to grow.
Each bacterium has protruding polyps to feed and absorb nutrients, and in the dead of night when the sea turns obsidian, their hidden patterns and cell formations come to life.
