This is the second time I’m making an illustration for a chocolate production in Turin, Italy.
You can see my first illustration here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/108803569/Engraving-style-illustration-of-Turin
This time the client wanted it in more elongated proportions and, what’s more important, with all the main focus on the Mole Antonelliana and mountains.

It was quite challenging as they wanted me to show the rest of the city as well, and also the Church of Santa Maria al Monte dei Cappuccini, which takes even more place on the illustration then the Mole Antonelliana itself.
My solution was to make the rest of the city in lighter strokes with almost no shadows, and the Church to make even lighter, so it doesn’t take too much attention and almost creates a contrast with the Mole.

To make the Mole Antonelliana stand out, I gave it reach shadows and a lot of details, and also gave more details and depth to the buildings right around it, so the Mole doesn’t just pop out as something alien, but grows out naturally.

The mountains were supposed to be the second thing for a viewer to look at, not too detailed but not too simplified.
