In the United States, Hamsters are one of the most commonly mistreated pets. Proper care is not taught, marketed, or sold to consumers. This is the problem that this book sets out to solve. With hamsters being marketed towards children and adults, a sophisticated yet playful palette of a blue and two browns was used throughout the book. Further in aid of this were the two typefaces soley utilized, a more fun display font of BadDog Regular with the negligibly more refined font of Arial Rounded MT Bold. Both illustrations and photographs are integrated throughout the book to charge the space and serve as a visual aid, showing what proper care looks like to readers. Similar to the choices above, the imagery also plays into the half playful, half sophisticated concept. The illustrations are more lively in contrast with the strong straight lines that break up the space on each page, helping organize the information.
Axial relationships are used on every content page to line up the heading with a box form. Furthermore, all body copy is placed in relation to the letterforms in their respective title. These strong axial relationships tied to the information help enforce the idea that the content is serious and should be taken as such.
Two typefaces were solely used throughout the book. As previously stated, BadDog Regular was employed as the display font for its uniform yet very legible appearance. It is seen on the cover in the title as well as all headings. The second typeface used was Arial Rounded MT Bold, seen in both the body copy and all extra information. Its rounded letterforms let the font be playful while maintaining a uniformity that enables it to be legible for lengthy text blurbs.
