Hello!
Welcome to my sixteenth portfolio piece. This project showcases my ability to use Adobe Illustrator's tools to create a vintage travel poster for Santa Barbara. To achieve the finalized image, I had to use the type, shape and pen tools in Adobe Illustrator.
Purpose: To demonstrate skills and knowledge of Illustrator's tools to produce a travel poster that represent a well known aspect of Santa Barbara in a fun manner.
Objective: Use Illustrator's type, shape and pen tools to create an expressive travel poster for Santa Barbara.
Approach: I began by brainstorming and sketching what aspect of Santa Barbara I can base my poster on (which became it's bright and lively beaches and activities); then I pulled together some reference images before using the image trace function in Illustrator to create vector images; next I used the pen, shape and live paint bucket tools to create colorful assets for this poster and chose a smooth typeface to display the name of the location and a tagline that conveys the down-to-earth and easy going nature of Santa Barbara.
Project Duration: This project took no more than 1 business day, specifically 2 hours (15 minutes for brainstorming and sketching, 1 hour to collect, arrange and create the assets based off of my sketch and 45 minutes to refine the poster).
Role: My role for this project was that of graphic designer, particularly that of a vector artist.
Final Product Overview: Using Illustrator's tools in tandem with my brainstorming skills, I was able to create a travel poster for Santa Barbara with skills that can be applied for commercial and freelance purposes.
