It all started when I was training for a marathon, running miles a day in Utah. I noticed this hexagaon-shaped object on the ground and it caught my eye. I passed it a couple more times before going back with my car to pick it up. I didn't know what I was going to do with it, but I was inspired by the shape and the junkyard kind of raw idea of it. Not too long after, I found a scrap of a tire in the road while jogging. When I picked it up, I was intrigued by the print and the texture, and it inspired me to want to make a print from the texture of it. When I combined the two ideas, I decided to design a modern junkyard themed line. The whole idea was not just recycling, but finding beauty in items that are often overlooked. I sketched an array of things based on this silhouette, print, and idea of materials it would utilize. I decided on shiny and modern looking for the accent pieces, while integrating the shapes into silhouettes and print. The pieces I chose to actualy make and photograph are extreme examples of what I envisioned. However, they can pair down niceley with a bright top or bottom (also in the collection). I am working on another piece from this line that is a bit more wearable that utilizes the print I've shown above. It's a one piece, hand-died, yellow jump suit with the print on the sides as a contouring illusion. I will post when finished.
