Liberty Leading The People
‘Liberty Leading The People’ is an artwork representing the voices and stories of Ukrainian refugees as part of the documentary premiere and exhibition Tales From the Border, an investigation of one of the most bitter conflicts taking place right now in the heart of Europe.
I worked with the voices of three Ukrainian women fleeing the country, which stories, fears, and hopes were featured in the documentary, along with the creation of a fundraiser to support them. Each artwork represents the voice of one of the three women the filming crew came in touch with during their time at the Ukrainian-Polish border.
The title Liberty Leading the People is a homage to the famous Delacroix painting. Characterised by its symbolic and political significance, it has become a universal symbol of liberty and democracy and is often used in popular culture to symbolise people's emancipation from oppressive domination.
To support Ukranian refugees, the limited edition prints are available for purchase on my online store, with 100% of the proceeds going to World Central Kitchen, a charity providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.
