Aimethyst: An App on Grief

For the module, Studio Project 2, I decided to base my design solution on Health and my chosen issue was on grief and loss.

Problem Statement
Many people who experience loss find it difficult to process grief properly, and it is challenging for them to come to terms with the loss. Oftentimes, they throw themselves into work or unhealthy activities to help them cope, and as a result, the experience and feelings blur together and remain knotted.

How might we create a platform for those experiencing loss and grief to heal in a healthy manner?

Introducing Aimethyst
A virtual companion app that helps users pick up the pieces of their life again after loss, allowing better concentration and management of daily life.

Types of Companions
To cater to different users' needs and preferences, I created 3 main companions. Del is soothing, Jae is casual and friendly, while Pip is humorous.

For Grief Literacy Activities:
To help users process loss, grief literacy is done through quiz-like games. Divided into 3 parts - Identify, Match Traps and Action Pick, this digestible format helps those grieving to understand their emotions, thoughts and experiences better.

Identify - Learn to identify emotions based on given thoughts and physical sensations.
Match Traps - Familiarise oneself with the different thinking traps through a matching game.
Action Pick - Based on the given scenarios, make a decision, reflect and understand reason behind one's reaction.
