The Universbox is my very own approach to analysing a given font. It captures my second Impression of the font ‘Univers’. At first I did not like the font at all because for my taste the font is too straight, direct, plain, basic, linearly and too architectural. But after all I realized what makes the font very special: it's the variability. I do like the thin letters very much but the bold, heavyweight and massive letters do not correspond with my esthetic understanding. That’s why I decided to play around with these variations of the font and to present it all in the the ‘Universbox’. For example, with bold letters made out of plexiglass, I gave the font the light and transparent appearance of glass. Additionally, the letters all amount to words that themselves are describing the font, too. So using different kinds of materials like plexiglass and wood, I created words like unique, special or adorable. These words are not only describing the font but also the real universe. This is something that really fits my design signature, because I like to put a little lyric thought in my typographic works as in this case I am playing with this homonym Univers and Universe.
